Job Summary
Reporting to the Resettlement Manager, the Resettlement Senior Officer will support the implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan by working closely with Project Affected People (PAPs).
The role involves providing accurate information to affected households and communities, identifying household-level risks and vulnerabilities, addressing concerns, and ensuring that PAP needs are considered in resettlement planning and implementation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. PAP Engagement and Information Sharing
- Conduct regular engagement with Project Affected People in line with the Stakeholder Engagement Plan.
- Provide clear and culturally appropriate information to households and community groups.
- Manage expectations and ensure concerns are addressed promptly.
- Support or deliver training to PAPs to assist their transition into host villages and new houses.
- Maintain accurate records of engagements, issues raised, commitments, and follow-up actions.
2. Vulnerability and Hardship Assessment
- Identify households experiencing hardship or vulnerability and those requiring additional support.
- Use agreed assessment tools and criteria when conducting vulnerability assessments.
- Monitor changes in household circumstances.
- Work closely with the Livelihood Restoration team to ensure communities are informed about planned activities and that activities are implemented according to the RAP.
3. Learning and Best Practices
- Work with the MEL team to identify lessons learned, emerging trends, and best practices relevant to resettlement implementation.
- Contribute to internal monitoring and evaluation of resettlement activities.
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Issue Resolution
- Support the resolution of concerns raised by PAPs by coordinating with the Grievance team.
- Ensure issues are addressed in accordance with company procedures and IFC Performance Standard 5 (IFC PS5).
- Facilitate feedback mechanisms so PAPs understand how their concerns have been considered or resolved.
5. Planning, Reporting and Documentation
- Contribute to departmental planning, including activity planning, risk identification, and resource requirements.
- Prepare weekly updates and engagement summaries.
- Provide inputs for resettlement progress reports.
- Ensure documentation meets internal quality standards and is stored according to data management protocols.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Development Studies, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in resettlement, community engagement, social performance, or a related field.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in basic computer applications.
- Experience working on resettlement projects and within the mining industry will be an added advantage.
