Job Purpose
The Legal & Compliance Officer will be responsible for protecting the company’s legal interests and supporting compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements. The role involves working closely with executive management on legal matters, contracts, regulatory obligations, disputes, and compliance across the company’s manufacturing and mining operations.
The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain effective relationships with relevant government institutions and regulatory authorities.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance
The Legal & Compliance Officer will maintain the company’s Legal & Regulatory Compliance Register, monitor applicable legal requirements, and ensure that operating permits and licenses are renewed within the required timeframes.
Contract Management
The officer will draft, review, negotiate, and manage various corporate and commercial agreements, including vendor contracts and other business obligations.
Operational and Environmental Compliance
The role will involve monitoring legal and regulatory compliance across manufacturing and mining operations. This includes matters relating to environmental requirements, occupational health and safety, and labour standards.
Litigation and Dispute Management
The successful applicant will track claims, disputes, and ongoing litigation while working closely with external legal advocates to support the company in managing legal proceedings.
Regulatory and Corporate Liaison
The Legal & Compliance Officer will communicate with government agencies and regulatory bodies and support corporate governance activities, Board administration, and statutory record-keeping.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B).
- Must be an Advocate/Graduate from the Law School of Tanzania.
- At least 2–3 years of experience in legal and compliance-related work.
- Experience in the cement, heavy manufacturing, mining, or energy sectors will be an added advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Swahili and English.
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian statutory, environmental, mining, occupational safety, and employment/labour legal frameworks.
