Project Officer Job Opportunity
Raising The Village is looking for a Project Officer to support the implementation and coordination of its programs in Tanzania. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Project Manager and collaborate closely with district authorities, Project Assistants, government extension workers, and community-level stakeholders.
The position will involve supporting project implementation, monitoring activities in assigned areas, strengthening government-led delivery systems, and ensuring that activities follow approved plans and organizational standards.
The Project Officer will also help identify and address challenges arising during field implementation, coordinate with district technical teams, support training and coaching activities, and document lessons that can be used to improve future project activities.
Key Responsibilities
Project Implementation and Management
The Project Officer will:
- Ensure that workplans prepared by government officials and Project Assistants are consistent with approved project plans.
- Support implementation and coordination of activities across assigned clusters.
- Identify challenges that require additional technical support and refer them to the Project Manager.
- Conduct at least three field visits every week to monitor and support project activities.
- Assist the Project Manager in implementing assigned initiatives and managing project workloads.
Government-Led Implementation
The successful candidate will work with district, ward, and village authorities to support the delivery of training, coaching, and follow-up activities.
Responsibilities will include checking whether government-led activities follow established technical standards, helping resolve implementation challenges, supporting the implementation of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), and clarifying roles at district and ward levels.
Reporting and Coordination
The Project Officer will also:
- Review field reports, workplans, and action plans.
- Identify potential implementation risks and recommend practical solutions.
- Provide accurate information for weekly, monthly, and donor reports.
- Record lessons learned from project implementation.
- Participate in learning meetings, reflection sessions, and after-action reviews.
Supervision and Coaching
The role includes providing guidance and mentorship to Project Assistants and government extension workers.
The Project Officer will conduct regular cluster review meetings, provide feedback, support staff performance reviews, facilitate refresher training, and provide coaching to project teams and district technical personnel.
Administration and Compliance
The position will also require the successful candidate to:
- Support project-related administrative activities.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and safeguarding requirements.
- Provide information required for donor reporting and internal coordination.
- Coordinate leave requests and field movements with the Project Manager.
- Perform other duties assigned by management or the supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
Applicants should demonstrate strong professional and interpersonal abilities. Key requirements and competencies include:
- Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
- Knowledge of local languages such as Kinyambo and Kihaya is an added advantage.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational, leadership, facilitation, and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage several responsibilities in a changing work environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- High levels of integrity, reliability, and commitment to work.
- Ability to work effectively in demanding field environments.
- Ability to work in rural areas and locations with challenging terrain.
- Willingness to travel for up to 80% of working time.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle.
