TotalEnergies Renewables Southern Africa is seeking a skilled Site Project Planning & Control Engineer to support project planning, scheduling, reporting, and project controls for renewable energy developments in De Aar, Northern Cape, South Africa. The successful candidate will work closely with the EPC Contractor and Project Management Team to monitor project performance, identify risks, and support timely project delivery.

About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the project plan and project controls while providing the Project Management Team with regular and accurate updates on project progress, risks, milestones, and schedule performance.

The role requires close coordination with project disciplines, the EPC Contractor, Project Director, financial team, Engineering team, and Economic Development workstreams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Control

The successful candidate will:

  • Analyze and maintain a strong understanding of PPA and EPC Contract requirements related to planning and reporting.

  • Develop project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and schedules.

  • Support financial teams by verifying payment milestone achievements and expected payment status based on schedule analysis.

  • Provide planning support and inputs to Engineering, Economic Development, and other project workstreams.

  • Coordinate continuously with project disciplines and the Project Director to maintain an up-to-date understanding of project health and risks.

  • Work with the EPC Contractor to develop and maintain the Project Schedule and project control procedures.

  • Ensure correct implementation of project control tools, including WBS, progress curves, weekly and monthly updates, and reporting.

  • Monitor Critical Path activities and establish appropriate milestones and KPIs to provide early warnings to the Project Management Team.

  • Support implementation of Level 3–4 schedules and detailed registers for monitoring weekly progress.

  • Analyze schedule narratives and review low-float, critical, and sub-critical activities.

  • Review overall Project, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning S-Curves.

  • Review resource histograms, planned versus actual resources, and productivity reports.

  • Compare updated project schedules against the baseline schedule.

  • Conduct Critical Path analysis.

  • Review project recovery plans.

  • Monitor key dates and milestones.

  • Manage the Project Risk Register.

Reporting Responsibilities

The role will also involve:

  • Compiling final project progress reports and ensuring timely submission to management.

  • Reviewing weekly and monthly progress reports submitted by EPC Contractors.

  • Identifying contractual issues that could create risks for the Project Company or affect the project schedule.

  • Developing Project Company control management plans for reporting.

  • Reviewing project management reporting documents submitted by EPC Contractors through the Electronic Document Management System (eDMS).

  • Supporting the preparation and analysis of claims by conducting the required project schedule and control analyses.

HSE Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to manage and minimize HSE risks within their area of responsibility by ensuring:

  • Compliance with HSE policies, rules, guidelines, and applicable legal requirements.

  • Promotion of a safe working environment.

  • Positive contribution to company HSE KPIs and risk-reduction strategies.

  • Identification and enforcement of required HSE competencies within the area of responsibility.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is highly recommended.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in planning and scheduling large projects, including at least 5 years working on PV and Wind Projects and experience completing at least one project.

  • Candidates without PV and Wind experience should demonstrate an outstanding profile with at least 5 years of experience in a similar environment.

  • EPC-side experience is mandatory. Experience working as a Project Developer or Owner is an advantage.

  • Strong proficiency in Primavera P6 Planning & Scheduling Software.

  • Experience with project control tools, including MS Project and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Willingness to be based at the construction site during the construction period.

  • Accurate, methodical, and well-organized approach to work.

  • Collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • A valid driver’s licence.
